JCR-UK HOSTED DATABASESThe general JCR-UK Database is the ALL-UK Database, which contains more than 390,000 records relating to Jews in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Gibraltar. In addition, the following separate databases are hosted by JCR-UK:
Federation of Synagogues Cemeteries Databases Made available to the public by the Federation of Synagogues, through JGSGB and JCR-UK. ● London - Edmonton Federation Cemetery Records - burial records of the cemetery at Edmonton, London N18 (over 39,100 records, from the opening of the cemetery in 1890 until January 2022). ● London - Rainham Federation Cemetery Records - burial records of the cemetery at Rainham, Essex (over 26,500 records, from the opening of the cemetery in 1938 until January 2022).
Other Hosted Cemeteries Databases Unless otherwise stated, prepared and made available to JCR-UK by Alan Tobias, assisted by members of the relevant communities. ● Bradford Jewish Cemeteries Database (a project funded by the UK Heritage Lottery Fund) - records of burials, plus photographs of the headstones, with GPS coordinates and Google satellite image showing the location of each grave in: ● Bradford Synagogue (Reform) Cemetery - over 200 interments, 1877 - May 2017; ● Bradford Hebrew Congregation (Orthodox) Cemetery - over 400 interments, 1912 - May 2017. ● Bristol Orthodox Jewish Cemeteries Database - records of over 950 burials, plus photographs of the extant headstones and copies of the burial certificates, where available, in the Bristol Hebrew Congregation Cemeteries at Barton Road, St Phillips and Ridgeway, Eastville (including re-internments from the Great Gardens, Rose Street Cemetery), from 1762 to 2003. ● Doncaster Jewish Cemetery Database - records of burials, plus photographs of the headstones, in the Doncaster Jewish Cemetery, Rose Hill (approximately 70 interments, 1930-2006) as well as World War I Commonwealth War Grave of a Jewish airman in the Doncaster General Cemetery, Hyde Park. ● Grimsby Jewish Cemetery Database - records of burials, plus photographs of the headstones, in the Grimsby Hebrew Congregation's Jewish Cemetery, Nunsthorpe, with GPS coordinates and Google satellite image showing the location of the grave (approximately 580 interments from 1896 to 31 July 2021). ● Harrogate - Stonefall Jewish Cemetery Database - records of burials, plus photographs of the headstones, in the Harrogate Hebrew Congregation's Stonefall Jewish Cemetery (approximately 180 interments or re-interments from 1964 to 2014) and 6 Jewish servicemen buried in the Stonefall Military Cemetery. ● Leeds Jewish Cemeteries Databases: ● Leeds - BHH Cemetery Database - records of 2,564 burials, including photographs of 2,495 headstones, with GPS coordinates and Google satellite image showing the location of the grave, in the Beth Hamedrash Hagadol (BHH) Cemetery, Leeds (which also includes a number of other congregations), Gelderd Road, Gildersome, from 1955 to 29 February 2024. ● Leeds - Hill Top Cemeteries Database - records of 2,953 burials, including photographs of 2,818 headstones, in the Leeds Hill Top Cemeteries, generally in use from 1875 to 1970 (but with some later burials). ● Leeds - New Farnley Cemeteries Database - records of 9,017 burials, including photographs of 7,943 headstones, with GPS coordinates and Google satellite image showing the location of the grave, in the Leeds New Farnley Cemeteries, from 1896 to 29 February 2024. ● Leeds - Sinai (Reform) Synagogue Cemetery Database - records of 336 burials, including photographs of 324 headstones, in the Leeds Sinai (Reform) Synagogue section of the Harehills Cemetery, Leeds, from the early 1950s to June 2014. ● Leeds - UHC Cemetery Database - records of 7,078 burials, including photographs of 5,293 headstones, with GPS coordinates and Google satellite image showing the location of the grave, in the United Hebrew Congregation (UHC) Cemetery, Leeds (which also includes a number of other congregations), Gelderd Road, Gildersome, from 1840 to February 2023. ● Liverpool Jewish Cemeteries Database - the result of the Liverpool Jewish Necrology Project, undertaken between 2015 and 2019 and lead by Philip Sapiro - contains records of some 12,500 burials at eleven Jewish burial locations in Liverpool, including personal details, plot locations and over 10,000 images of headstones and burial registers. Burials date from the 1770s to 31 December 2018).● Newcastle upon Tyne Jewish Cemeteries Databases - records include GPS coordinates for each individual grave (accurate to about one metre) together with a button which, when clicked, brings up a Google satellite image of the cemetery showing the location of the grave: ● Newcastle - Hazelrigg Jewish Cemetery Database - records of nearly 2,300 burials, with over 1,730 headstone images, at the the Hazelrigg Jewish (Orthodox) Cemetery, which also includes burials in the Ravensworth and Gateshead Community sections of the cemetery. The database covers burials from 1908, shortly following the opening of the cemetery, to July 2023. ● Newcastle - Heaton Jewish Cemetery Database - records of 404 burials, with 293 headstone images, at the (Orthodox) Jewish Section of the Byker and Heaton Municipal Cemetery, known as the Heaton Cemetery. The database covers burials from 1915, when the cemetery was opened by the former Jesmond Hebrew Congregation. ● South Shields Harton Cemetery Database - records of 257 burials, plus photographs of 179 headstones, in the South Shields Hebrew Congregation's Harton Jewish Cemetery, with GPS coordinates and Google satellite image showing the location of the grave. Burials date from 1899 to 31 December 2022. ● Sunderland Jewish Cemeteries Database - records of nearly 1,500 burials, including over 1,260 photographs of headstones and graves, with GPS coordinates and Google satellite image showing the location of each grave, in all three Jewish sections of Sunderland's Bishopwearmouth Cemetery (1856 to May 2019). ● Whitley Bay Jewish Cemetery Database - records of 94 burials, plus photographs of 90 headstones, in the Whitley Bay Hebrew Congregation's Jewish Cemetery, with GPS coordinates and Google satellite image showing the location of the grave. Burials date from 1953 to 31 December 2022. ● Welsh Jewish Cemeteries Databases: ● Cardiff - cemeteries of the Cardiff Hebrew Congregation - records include GPS coordinates for each individual grave (accurate to about one metre) together with a button which, when clicked, brings up a Google satellite image of the cemetery showing the location of the grave: ○ Highfield Road Orthodox Jewish Cemetery Database - records of nearly 1,800 burials, with some 1,470 headstone images, at the congregation's cemetery in Highfield Road, Roath Park, Cardiff. The database covers burials from 1852 until July 2020. In addition, images of a number of memorial/dedication plaques in the cemetery's prayer hall (ohel) can be viewed here on a separate page. ○ Ely Orthodox Jewish Cemetery Database - records of nearly 970 burials, with some 820 headstone images, at the congregation's cemetery in Ely, Cardiff. The database covers burials from 1968 until November 2019. ● Merthyr Tydfil Jewish Cemetery Database - burial records of the former Merthyr Tydfil Hebrew Congregation's cemetery, including GPS coordinates for each individual grave (accurate to about one metre) together with a button which, when clicked, brings up a Google satellite image of the cemetery showing the location of the grave. The database covers all burials at the cemetery, from about 1865 up to and including the final burial in March 1999. In total there are 679 identified burials, of which there are 419 identified burial locations and 415 headstone images. ● Swansea Jewish Cemeteries Database - burial records of the Swansea Hebrew Congregation's two cemeteries, the only Jewish cemeteries in Swansea, including GPS coordinates for each individual grave (accurate to about one metre) together with a button which, when clicked, brings up a Google satellite image of the cemetery showing the location of the grave. The database now covers burials to 30 June 2023 at the following cemeteries: ○ Old Cemetery, Townhill, generally in use from 1768 until mid-1970s - 790 records, with 702 headstone photographs; ○ Oystermouth Cemetery, opened 1975 - nearly 200 records, with 185 headstone photographs.
Other Hosted Databases● Bristol Hebrew Congregation Birth & Death Register (1829-1893) - Records of all entries in the Bristol Hebrew Congregation Birth and Death Register from 1829 to 1893, including, in each case, a scanned image of the corresponding page of the Register.
Burial Databases affiliated to JCR-UKThe following databases are affiliated to JCR-UK: ● The Database of the Glasgow Hebrew Burial Society (which manages the Riddrie, Sandymount and Glenduffhill Jewish Cemeteries), now part of Scottish Jewish Cemeteries, is affiliated to JCR-UK. This latter database includes burials at all cemeteries in Scotland.
● Leicester - Gilroes Jewish Cemetery Database
- The Jewish Gilroes website (a project funded by the UK
Heritage Lottery Fund) is affiliated to JCR-UK. The database contains records of
approximately 820 burials, plus photographs of all extant headstones, in Gilroes Jewish Cemetery
of the Orthodox
Leicester Hebrew Congregation, from 1902 to present.
