Auckland Road, off off Newmarket Road, Cambridge CB5 8DW from 13 June 2015. This was the first new reform synagogue to be built in Britain in 21st century.(i)

Date Founded:

The Beth Shalom congregation was founded in 1981, having developed from the Cambridge Reform Jewish Community, which was founded in October 1976.(iii)

The congregation is a constituent synagogue of the Movement for Reform Judaism, formerly known as the Reform Synagogues of Great Britain, since the mid-1980s(v) but was formerly unaffiliated.

Affiliated Community:

The Jewish Community in West Norfolk and the Fens, a small community centred in King's Lynn, is affiliated to the Beth Shalom congregation.(vi)

Legal & Charitable Status:

The congregation is a registered company (company no. 7240029), a private company limited by guarantee without a share capital (and with an exemption from use of the word 'Limited'), incorporated on 30 April 2010.(ix)

It is also a registered charity (no. 1136605).(x)

The governing documents were the Company's Memorandum & Articles Association.

Cemetery
Information:

Members of the congregation contribute to the Joint Jewish Burial Society (JJBS).

JJBS membership covers the cost burial at the Western Cemetery in Cheshunt, or at the Woodland Cemetery in Cheshunt. It also allows for burial in the congregation's own section of the Huntingdon Road Cemetery, Cambridge, but there are some additional charges for this. The JJBS will also cover certain costs for cremation.(xii)
