Please listen to three short passages in USHMM oral history RG-90.129.0697 and provide the exact Polish transcription plus an English translation. Public audio: https://oralhistory-assets.ushmm.org/RG-90.129.0697.01.01.mp3. At 00:20:35–00:20:51, does the witness give names for the five people in the forest shelter, and what origins are mentioned? At 00:25:00–00:26:30, can you identify the family reportedly shot for helping Jews and verify the Cyców grandmother's name (machine heard “Feliksa Zazańska”)? At 00:28:36–00:29:16, please verify the statements about Biskupice, Trawniki, Bełżec, and possible origin in Piaski. The machine transcript may be wrong. Please state timestamp, exact Polish, and English meaning. |

This handwritten Yiddish message is on the reverse of a family photograph showing a married couple with two young girls. Family oral history says the woman may be one of Judko/Judka Gitman's two sisters from Biskupice in the Lublin region of Poland, but the identity is unconfirmed. All four are believed to have died during the Holocaust. Please provide: (1) an exact Yiddish transcription, (2) a full English translation, (3) transliteration of every personal and place name, and (4) any date, writer, recipient, or kinship terms. Please mark uncertain readings letter by letter. Source: privately held family photograph. |

It looks like her name is Tzipor as opposed to Tzipporah. Am I reading this correctly? Has anyone ever heard the name? |

I would like to know the full name of Abraham; I cannot quite figure out what his middle name is.
I believe his English name was Abraham Zavel which is almost, but not quite, how I am reading this middle name. Thank you in advance for any suggestions. Barb London |

A line in Arabic script, written in pencil with what looks like a flourish drawn across it, on the flyleaf of a printed book in Arabic that has come down in my family. Below it, on the same page, there is a separate line in Hebrew cursive.
I would be grateful for a transcription, and for your view on whether this is a personal signature rather than a note, and whether a name can be read from it.
As with any signature, I would rather not say what I expect it to say. Please transcribe what you see.
The book belonged to a Jewish family that lived in Ottoman Palestine and later in Egypt, roughly 1870 to 1920. |

This is a personal letter dated 12 June 1936, apparently written in Yiddish and addressed to my father, Meir Erteschik. I would be particularly grateful for a transcription of the original Yiddish, rather than only an English translation. Please indicate any words, personal names, or place names whose reading is uncertain. I would also very much like to identify the writer; I believe his first name may have been Moshe, but I am not certain. |
