Hebrew ownership inscription on the flyleaf of a printed book in Arabic that has come down in my family. On the same page, above this line, there is a second line in Arabic script.
I would be grateful for a transcription of the Hebrew, letter by letter where the letters allow it, and for your view on two questions. Is this an ownership inscription, or something else? And does the hand read as the owner writing in his own book, or as a later note written by someone else about a previous owner? That distinction matters a great deal to me.
I would rather not say what I think the name is, because I want a reading that is independent of my expectation. Please transcribe what you actually see, and mark any letter you are unsure of.
The family lived in Safed and Tiberias and later in Egypt, and read and wrote Arabic. The likely period is roughly 1870 to 1920. The hand is Sephardic cursive. |

I am looking for a complete translation of this ketubah from Hebrew/Aramaic into English, including both the printed text and all handwritten additions. In particular, I would appreciate help deciphering the names, dates, places, and amounts written by hand. If possible, I would also like an explanation of the different clauses. I am particularly interested in finding someone with experience reading and translating ketubot or historical Jewish documents. I'm from Argentina, and this Ketubah most likely corresponds to the marriage between my great grandfather and great grandmother, and i'm not quite certain if it took place in Buenos Aires- Argentina, or in Poland before they came here. Thank you very much for your help. |

My cousin sent me this picture but can't identify the people in it. I believe this is in New Haven, Connecticut. This family immigrated from Suwalki, Poland around 1888. They settled in Manhattan. One son, Charles Goldstein (changed name to Golden) settled in Connecticut around 1900.I would like to know the identity of these people. |

This is gravestone of my paternal grandmother who died at age 27, when my father was two years old. I'd appreciate a translation of the Hebrew inscription, and if possible, the meaning of the design at the top. |

Translation into English. This is the 4th and final page of the letter sent to (I presume) my mother’s father Kalman Cederbaum from his brother Jacob Cederbaum. I had no idea that he had any surviving relatives after the Shoah |

Translation and any insights or context. I believe it was written by my grandfather’s brother JACOB CEDERBAUM. I have 3 more pages of this letter and a second two-page letter signed by him (same paper and similar/same writing dates 1959) which I plan to upload weekly.
My grandfather’s name was Kalman Cederbaum and my mum always said he was from Lublin and Pinsk. |

From Szukaj w Archiwach.
Akta 32 is my great-great-grandfather’s first-cousin’s 1853 birth record from Zaręby Kościelne, Łomza, Poland. I would be grateful if someone could translate it in full (or at least everything that isn’t the standard wording of a birth record).
Names that I would expect to see in the text are:
- the child: Herszko ZARĘBER;
- his father: Juśk, son of Szmul ZARĘBER & Golda Chajmowna;
- his mother: Zelda, daughter of Abraham WAJNTROB & Mirka Idźkowicz.
Thanks so much! Hopefully the handwriting isn’t too hard to read. |

This is my great grandfather's birth certificate - Dawid Jonas Sokolow. I managed to decipher the names in the document, nothing else. Would appreciate a translation. As far as I know he was born in 1885. I don't know the exact date. Does the document state where each of his parents (Icek & Chaya-Sura)came from? Thanks a lot. |
