The synagogue was erected in 1861(iii), designed by architect Hyman Henry Collins, FRIBA.(iv)

The congregation previously met at Wigmore Street, London W1 until about 1861, having been situated there since 1853.

Closed in September 1896, succeeded by Lauderdale Road Synagogue(v)

Officers:

The Jewish Directory for 1874(vi) states that the Wardens and Secretary are same the Bevis Marks Synagogue. However, it lists the following officers for the Congregation:

Superintendent: Haim Capua

Local Government District:

Bryanston Street and Wigmore Street are now in the City of Westminster and were (from 1900 to 1965) in the former Metropolitan Borough of St Marylebone. Prior to 1900, St Marylebone was a civil parish in the former County of Middlesex.(ix)

Until 1899, St Marylebone, a civil parish, had been part of the former county of Middlesex.
