Contents of Volume Two (1998)

The Kielce-Radom Special Interest Group's journal, K-R SIG Journal, began publication in January, 1997. With more than 200 pages of genealogical material annually, it is one of the most informative, instructional and useful publications available to Jewish genealogists, especially to those researching these two southern gubernias of the Kingdom of Poland.

Complete extracts of all Jewish deaths in the city of Kielce, 1870 to 1884, transcribed from the Russian by Dolores Lee Ring. This set of 675 death records encompasses all the Kielce deaths microfilmed by the LDS. For each death, our published data contains: Year and document number, surname, given name, marital status, age, father's name, mother's name (including maiden name where given), and city of residence/death. Only about half of these death registrations are for residents of the city of Kielce -- over 100 other cities and towns are represented.
Complete extracts of all Jewish births in the town of Wolbrom, 1810 to 1825. Over 400 births, extracted from the Roman Catholic civil register transcripts, by Robert Heyman. Lists year and document number; child's given name; father's name, age, and occupation; and mother's name (including maiden name) and age. Also encompasses neighboring villages.
Wierzbnik - three items: History of the town of Wierzbnik Starachowice, by Abe Zuckerman, et. al. A history of the Wierzbnik Friendly Mutual Society of Toronto, by Abe Zuckerman and Morris Werger. Information from their recent meeting, by Carolynne Veffer.
Protokols: Vital Record Verification, by Lauren Eisenberg Davis and Alexander Beider. Epilogues to the vital registry books: what are they, what information do they contain, and are they valuable research tools?
Childhood memories of Radom, by the late Max Mandel.
Book Review: Lauren Eisenberg Davis' Autumn Leaves, reviewed by Gladys Paulsen, former president of the JGS of Orlando. A review of a family history book dealing with the Kielce-Radom area. This book is a genealogical journey loaded with great methodology tips for all genealogists.

Cyrillic Occupations by Dolores Lee Ring. A four page list of occupations found in vital records from the Kielce area, in Russian and English. Includes a section on military-related occupational terms, and guidance on translating occupational information from the vital records of the Russian-language era (1868-1917).
"Confirming the Zelinger-Kestenberg Connection - Working with Early 19th Century Vital Records", by Robert E. Heyman. An intensive study of the author's ancestral families from Olkusz, describing his research and analysis methodology. The author, a mathemetician for the U.S. Department of Defense, includes an explanation of the statistical probablities of given names within the family.
Surnames from the Opoczno Yizkor Book, by Gideon Carmi. Ninety-five surnames from Sefer Opoczno (1989). These are names of residents of Opoczno who perished in the Holocaust. These surnames do not appear in Alexander Beider's list of Jewish surnames from the Opoczno district.
Wachock Tombstone Photographs and Transcripts, by Mike Persillin; with tombstone transcriptions by Rabbi Charles Lippman. The story of a visit to Wachock (Vanhotsk), and transcriptions of forty-three remaining Jewish tombstones.
Book Review: Jewish Roots in Poland: Pages from the Past and Archival Inventories, by Miriam Weiner, reviewed by Warren Blatt. A detailed review of this recently published book, "This magnum opus is the most comprehensive work ever published on Polish-Jewish genealogy".
Slownik Historii Kieleckich Zydów - [The Dictionary of Kielce Jews], a book by Krzysztof Urbanski and Rafal Blumenfeld. A description and excerpt from this book, published in Kielce in Polish in 1995.
Lagów - A report of a recent meeting of the Lagower Mutual Benefit Society of Toronto, by Sid Orfus and Max Katchky; and photograph of all members of the Lagower Hilfs Farein of Toronto in 1938. The photo contains forty-nine individual portraits, each with a caption in Yiddish.

This town was also known as "Andreyev" in Russian, or "Yen-jev" in Yiddish.
