I know the film is accurate because the text listing from the LitvakSIG database is correct. I think I'm on the right page.

I just can't translate the cursive Russian (the Hebrew cursive is way too faded).

Born in Vilnius on December 25, 1903. Not recorded until 1904. Full name is Khonon Tavshunsky. Father is Yosel. Mother is Sprintza.

Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I believe I can read Khonon in the last column where they record the baby's name.

Is there anyone who might be able to help translate the cursive?

I'm sorry the image is so faint. I think I have the basic facts from the LVIA index, but could you please confirm the names, ages, and any comments? For example, does it say that Iosel died in 1875? 115323 Translation - Hebrew

9/9/2026 4:47 PM Please read the Hebrew and Yiddish handwriting on this page, the right-hand page of a 1928 duplicate of an 1903 birth record from Zemaiciu Naumiestis (Naishtot-Tavrig).

I would like the personal names: child, father, mother. A Lithuanian parallel page gives them in Latin letters and I am deliberately not sending it, because I would rather have what the Hebrew says than a confirmation of what I expect. I will send it once you have read.

One oddity. A single word appears five times and I do not think it is Hebrew at all. It is connected cursive, roughly six letters, with a run of six evenly spaced arches, and it ends in a large looped stroke that does not join the letters before it. The same word fills both the birthplace and the residence field. I cannot tell whether it is Latin or Cyrillic, a town name or shorthand for "the same place." Your judgment would help.

The Hebrew dates were read on ViewMate in 2026 as 28 Elul and 6 Tishri; please skip those.

115321 Translation - Yiddish

9/9/2026 4:47 PM Please translate the Yiddish on this sheet. The Latin-script portions I can read; the Yiddish I cannot. Two blocks of Yiddish prose sit below the register section, four lines each, plus Yiddish beside the Latin entries and a line at top right. I would like all of it, but the two prose blocks matter most.

One thing is especially interesting. In brown ink, a cursive paragraph in the same hand and ink as a letter on the reverse of this sheet, dated 27 February 1941 from Naishtot. Beneath it sits a single isolated word, where a signature would go. That letter names nobody, not its writer and not its recipient. If you can read that one word, it would tell my family who wrote to them four months before the Germans came.

The Latin dates read 1907, but those are birth dates; the sheet was written in 1941 or later.

I would rather not say what I think it says, as three programs gave three different answers. If a word is illegible, please mark it illegible rather than guess.

Akta 1 is my great-great-grandfather’s first-cousin’s 1857 birth record from Zaręby Kościelne, Łomza, Poland. I would be grateful if someone could translate it in full (or at least everything that isn’t the standard wording of a birth record).

Names that I would expect to see in the text are:
- the child: Cyrla ZARĘBER;
- her father: Juśk, son of Szmul ZARĘBER & Golda Chajmowna;
- her mother: Zelda, daughter of Abraham WAJNTROB & Mirka Idźkowicz.
