Search Criteria
Geographic search: The geographic search, as the whole site, is based on the 1910 political structure of the area in the Russian Empire.
Province (guberniya):
If "All provinces" selected, the search will look for all geographical areas.
If "General " is selected, the search will only search will restrain the results to specific "general " document collections.
If a Province is selected, the district dropdown will be filled with the corresponding districts.
District (uyezd):
If "All districts" selected, the search will look for all districts in the selected province.
If "No districts" selected, the search will look only for "province specific" document collections.
If a district is selected, the town dropdown will be filled with the corresponding towns.
Town:
If "All towns" selected, the search will look for all towns in the selected district.
If "No town"s selected, the search will look only for "district specific" document collections.
If a town is selected, the search will be limited to the town "specific" document collections.
Document Type: Can limit the search results to a specific document type.
Keyword: The keyword allows to search for specific information in the title, description and period of the document collection (i.e. a specific year).
Keyword is optional. If left blank, the search will be limited by the other criterias of the search.
Search Results
Sortable columns: By clicking on a column header you can sort the table by that column
Geographic Area: By clicking on the name of the resulting geographic area (province, district, town) you'll be redirected to the corresponding province/district/area page.
See collection details (magnifiying glass icon): By clicking this option you'll be redirected to the collection page where more information on the collection will be displayed
Open collection (open book icon): This icon only appears if the collection is viewable on internet (can be outside JewishGen). By clicking it, the collection address will be opened in a new window
