The Jewish Genealogical Society (JGS) of New Orleans is a non-profit organization for those who desire to research their Jewish roots in Louisiana and worldwide. Our purpose is to bring members together to share information and ideas, and to periodically present programs which will assist with such research, providing members with a broad base of knowledge regarding resources and research skills.
The two main projects of the JGSNO at this time are: 1.) stocking a Jewish Genealogy Research section in the Special Collections area of the East Jefferson Regional Library; most of the books donated thus far have come from the private collection of the Society's President and Vice President; and, 2.) indexing of burials in all Jewish Cemeteries in the New Orleans area and in other areas in South Louisiana. In addition to books, CD's and videos, the library collection also includes issues of other Jewish genealogy society newsletters worldwide.
