JCR-UK is a genealogical and historical website covering all Jewish communities and
congregations throughout the British Isles and Gibraltar, both past and present.
NOTE: We are not the official website for these communities.
Borough of North Tyneside
North Tyneside is a metropolitan borough in the county of Tyne and Wear
in the North East of England. It was created in 1974 upon the merger of several authorities, including the
boroughs of Tynemouth and most of Whitley Bay, all of which were then part of the county of Northumberland.
In 1986, North Tyneside became a unitary authority, when the metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear lost its
administrative status, becoming purely a ceremonial county.
Towns in the borough include the port of North
Shields (formerly in the county borough of Tynemouth), situated opposite South
Shields on the north side of the Tyne estuary, and the seaside town of Whitley Bay, located
few miles to the north on the North Sea coast.
