Northwood Synagogue also known as Northwood United Synagogue(ii)

The building was completed in 1995 and consecrated by the Chief Rabbi on 22 September 1995.

It was built on a plot that previously comprised three houses purchased for the congregation by the United Synagogue in 1990.(iii)

Date Formed:

The Congregation's traced its origins as a Northwood overflow service of Pinner Synagogue. The first proper Sabbath service was held in a church hall in Northwood on Chanukah, 19 December 1987 and later Sabbath morning services were held locally in private homes, initially just once a month. In 1990, the community commenced holding local Friday nights services in private homes and the United Synagogue bought three houses in Murray Road, Northwood, which became the regular venue for services. Also in 1990, a steering committee was formed and it was agreed that Northwood become a congregation independent of Pinner.(iv)

Current Status:

In July 2024, the congregation merged with Ruislip and District United Synagogue to form the Northwood and Ruislip United Synagogue, which continues to function from the synagogue in Murray Road, Northwood.(v)

Previously, Northwood was in the Urban District of Ruislip-Northwood (created in 1904), within the former County of Middlesex, both of which entities were abolished in 1965.
