SOUTHAMPTON (Hampshire)

Published Data

A  -  The community was in existence in 1833. In 1845 there were ten Ba'ale Batim and seven seatholders. In 1851 there were fifty seven appropriated seatholders, and seven actual attendees at services, with an estimated [Jewish] population of 75.

1874[a]

Synagogue, Albion Place.  Synagogue erected in 1865. It has seat accommodation for 60 gentlemen and 40 ladies.

Hebrew Sabbath School. Number of Pupils, 20.

Society for the Relief of the Poor.

1901[b]

20 Jewish families.  1900 - 4 marriages and 4 burials.

Synagogue, Albion Place, High Street.  Founded 1864. Seatholders, 20.

Jewish Poor Relief Fund (founded 1876).

Hebrew and Religious Classes  Twenty-two children attend the school (12 boys and 10 Girls).
