On 15 March 2012, the congregation was incorporated as a registered (non-profit) company, North Manchester Reform Synagogue Limited (company no. 07991054), a private company limited by guarantee without a share capital.^(xvi)

It is a also registered charity, under the name Sha'arei Shalom North Manchester Reform Congregation (registered charity no. 506117), registered on 11 March 1977. The governing document is the congregation's constitution dated 27 February 1977, as amended 19 June 1996.^(xvii)

Whitefield is in the metropolitan borough of the Bury, within the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester (which no longer has any administrative powers).

From 1889 until its incorporation into Bury in 1974, Whitefield was an Urban District in the county of Lancashire.
