This website is organized with two cross-referenced guides. Types of Records
can help
you solve a specific problem. For example, if you are trying to find
information about the death of an individual, by going to the Types
of Records page, you will find what types of records are available and where to
find them. When you click on a specific resource, you will be taken to its
description on this site. You will then be able to review the
information about that site and decide whether to call, personally
visit, e-mail, or continue your online research by clicking on their
website.
On the other hand, if you know what resource you
are looking for but need help finding information about it (address,
phone, fax, e-mail, website), then just click Resource
Locations and you will be guided to the location by going to the
specific category of location (cemetery, funeral home, government, general) or by going to an Alphabetical Index
of all locations. We have attempted not to duplicate all of the information
about a specific resource that is maintained on the resource's own
website by providing only a summary of the description of resources and
access to records and fees. These locations are divided between "In Chicagoland" and
"Beyond Chicagoland."
Within each of the regions, the locations are described further and it
is specified whether it is a location that is of primary interest to the
Jewish researcher or those which are of use to general
genealogists.
A Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQ) page is also provided to answer questions that do not fit into any of
the other pages. In addition, a compiled bibliography can be found on Reference
Materials page.
