The book is divided into three parts.
Part I describes sources of information for the period 1790–1918.
Part II is devoted to 1918–1939, which saw immense change for Kraków and its inhabitants. The collapse of the Austrian Empire was followed by a surge in Polish nationalism. Initially, many Jews participated in, and benefitted from, the development of the Polish state and its institutions. However, with the passing years, nationalism took an increasingly negative, and then hostile, toll on Jewish life. Of course, worse was to follow, but in this interwar period the Jewish community established and developed a number of communal institutions.
Part III includes information about locations within a 20 miles (32 km) radius of the city, including the district of Podgórze, the town of Wieliczka and a large number of shtetlach, villages and hamlets.
The book will be of interest to all readers who are researching ancestors from Kraków and the surrounding area.
