In Yiddish, Shventezheris A county town in the district of Sejny, 11 km west of Seirijai. Sventezeris is an old settlement, which is known since the second half of the 15th century. In 1663, a Jewish leaseholder lived in the town. Apparently, no Jews lived in the town prior to WWI. However, several Jewish families settled in the town a few years before WWI and during the period of Independent Lithuania. According to the 1923 census, the town had 389 residents and among them were counted 23 Jews. In June, 1941, when Germany conquered Lithuania, the fate of the Jews of Sventezeris was the same as the fate of the Jews in the surrounding areas.
