Translated by Shimon Joffe Saldutiskis is a small town 21 km south east of the district town Utena on the railway line Utena Svencionys. In the seventies of the 19th century it had a large Jewish population which could afford to employ a rabbi. The town rabbi in 1882 was Rabbi Aaron son of Abba Stein (born 1855). During the period of Lithuanian independence Jews lived in the town. In 1923 it had 71 inhabitants. In the 1938 list of Jewish artisans Saldutiskis appears. With the conquest of Lithuania by the Germans in June 1941, the Jews shared the fate of the other Jews in the vicinity.
