In Yiddish, Zhemaitkyemis
A county town, about 14 km northeast of the district city of Ukmerge. In 1923, the town had 207 Jews. According to the 1931 Lithuanian government census, there was a Jewish grain merchant (Judel Guterman) in Zemaitkiemis. In the nearby estate of Zemaitkiemis lived 210 people and among them were 99 Jews.
