List of Brzeziner Jews Who Were Contributors
to Keren Kayemeth in 1913

This is a long list of the names of Jews in Brzezin who had, on Erev Yom Kippur (1913), put donations for the settlement of the Land of Israel in collection plates placed at minyan [quorem of ten men needed for prayers] services in small Orthodox synagogues––[a practice] observed until today.

The list was a report of the donations made on Erev Yom Kippur for the good of the community in support of Jews who worked on the land and for the purchase of land in Eretz Israel [this paragraph written in Hebrew].

In fact, this was a campaign for Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael (Jewish National Fund) through the traditional collection on Erev Yom Kippur during the afternoon prayer session in boti-medroshim [small Orthodox synagogues] and shuls [synagogues]. The Odessa Committee centralized the collection that was also conducted in the gubernias [provinces] of the Russian Poland of that time.

The list of donors in Brzezin is one of the most interesting and important documents for the history of the Jewish community in our hometown (the designation “K” is for kopek, and “R” is for ruble). [100 kopeks equal 1 ruble.] The report consists of a total of the donations in every bes tfile [house of prayer] separately.

[This list was originally organized in groups by the name of the collector and within groups by how much the person gave. In order to aid those researching their family history, this list has been reorganized and alphabetized by surname. For explanation of the guiding principles for the transliteration of names, please see the last chapter of the Brzeziny translation––“Necrology”––in the Table of Contents.]
