The Union of Czenstochower Landsleit [people from the same town] in Buenos-Aires was founded in 1929. It introduced as its main task to provide material help for the needy landsleit here and for loans with easy conditions for payment. The number of members was small then because the Czenstochower landsleit did not show any interest in the Union.
The leadership of the Union consisted of a committee of seven men. The income of the Union came from tea-entertainments, when the group would come together and speak with [other] landsleit whom they had not seen for a long time. At this opportunity, they listened to a few words from the leaders about the need to support the Union.
We must confess that the principles of the Union were not upheld. The Union carried a bourgeois character through and through and, therefore, did not receive the appropriate support of the Czenstochower who had a different approach to the communal question.
The activity of the Union stopped a short time later.
In March 1943, when the terrible news from Czenstochow and from all of Poland reached us here in Argentina, we saw that we needed to exert all of our strength to create help for our unfortunate sisters and brothers. The Czenstochwer Landsleit Union reorganized with enthusiasm. Many members contributed large sums, others

undertook paying [their contribution in installments] until such time as they would receive an exact address in Czenstochow to which to send the collected money.
The work of us in the Czenstochower Landsleit Union was energetic, just as in other landsleit organizations, a number of which had only recently been organized. All landsleit organizations now concentrated on one task – help for the old home.
The address of the Czenstochower Landsleit Union in Argentina is: Buenos Aires, Junin 122.
