On  Response
12/25/2024 7:52 AM while searching the VM archives for something I came across your posting that had no one response. So although years later here it is. It is a beautiful epitaph paraphrasing and directly quoting from the Torah to eulogize a respected community leader.

Here is buried an unblemished and honest man (Book of the prophet Iyuv-Job,1:8),
He was the Parnes (Deacon) and Leader, the Chaver Reb Aharon Moshe
son of the Chaver Reb Nosson Leidsdorf,
And there was no other who arose like Moshe (Devarim-Deuteronomy 34:10) to do Justice and Righteousness (Mishlei- Proverbs 2:9) all the days of his life. (Prophet Shmuel- Samuel A, 7:15)
And Moshe ascended to God (Shemos- Exodus 19:3)
passed away the eve of the 4th and was buried on the 4th of Kislev, (in the year since the world was created)
And the children of Israel cried over Moshe" (Devarim-Deuteronomy 34:8)(5508)
5508.

Observations:
The title "Parnes is rooted in the Talmud as a leader of the Congregation who must also be learned in the Torah.
In European Jewish History it was the Parnes who was the Congregation or community representative who dealt with the local Duke, Governor persecuting them.
The title "Chaver" which literally in Hebrew means "Friend" was a respectful title that the Community Rabbi or Head of the yeshiva would bestow on a layman in recognition of his learned scholarship and his efforts for the community. It was more prevalent among the German and Austro-Hungarian Communities than the Eastern Russian/ Polish communities. it is a serious ordaned honor and it said a lot about the person. When the deceased was called up to teh Torah reading the TItel would be mentioned with his name. it is appropriate as we see here to write it on his tombstone. Apparently his father was one as well.
THE Rabbi who wrote the text used the verses from end of the Bible that described Moses's death and how we mourned him.
If you look at the Verse "And the children of Israel cried over Moshe", notice the small dots above certain letters, if you add up the numerical value of them the sum is 508, the year he died.
3rd of Kislev, 5508 was approximately November 5, 1747.
