On  Response
9/2/2026 9:29 PM 1. Groom: Mózes Fisch, distiller, birthplace in Csenger
Parents: Lázár Fisch, wife Rebeka
Residence: Csenger, age 58, widower
Bride: Mari Veisz, birthplace Jármi
Parents: Farkas Veisz, wife Pepi
Residence: Mihalydi, age 45, widow
Announcements: in Mihálydi, three times
Marriage: January 30th 1876 in Mihálydi
Witnesses: Isráel Braun, Jákobb Engellender
Officiant: Farkas Róz, Járme

Csenger and Jármi were in Szatmár and (Nyír)mihálydi was in Szabolcs; they're all now in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg.

A few letters of the groom's occupation don't really match _pálinka főző_ "brandy cooker" (the L shouldn't have a descender, and the first ő needs to be more closed at the top), but I cannot think of anything else it could possibly be trying to say.
9/10/2026 2:00 PM Hi: I thought you might be interested... I continue to run tests with AI tools ... eg to compare the output from one AI tool against another or in this case against transcription/translation done by a non-AI source

NB Response in 1st person is from AI tool (not me) I though it was pretty cool !!

I converted and closely examined the TIFF (upscaled/cropped by section) and compared it against the transcription. Here's what I found:

a) Missing details (in image, not in text file)
- **Folio/entry numbers**: The image carries several archival reference marks that aren't captured in the text file: "Fol. No. 4" (top right of the witnesses/officiant section), and the number "76" written twice in the left margin (this appears to be the running annual entry number for the marriage register). There's also a small "1" under the "Folyó szám" (serial number) column for the groom's row.
- The printed register heading itself — "Házasok anyakönyve" / "Trauungs‑Protokoll" (Register of Marriages) — isn't noted, though this is just the form title, not data about the couple.

These are minor archival/finding-aid details rather than substantive genealogical content, but a strict transcription would normally capture the entry number.

b) Wrong details
I did not find any actual errors — every substantive field (names, parents, ages, residences, birthplaces, marital status, announcement location/count, marriage date and place, witnesses, officiant) matches the image correctly, including the somewhat unusual practice of flipping Hungarian surname-first order to given-name-first in the English rendering (done consistently for the groom, bride, witnesses, and officiant alike).

c) Unnecessary detail (in text file, not in image)
- The closing paragraph explaining that **Csenger and Jármi were historically in Szatmár county, (Nyír)mihálydi in Szabolcs county, and all are now in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg** is not part of the document — it's the transcriber's own historical/geographical annotation, added for context rather than transcribed from the record.

d) Ambiguous details

- **Text file**: The transcriber's own note flags uncertainty over the groom's occupation, describing the handwriting as not quite matching *pálinka főző* ("brandy cooker/distiller"). Having examined the handwriting myself, I'd agree — the word does look like "pajinka fő[ző]," and the letterforms are irregular (the *l* has an odd descender-like stroke, and the *ő* is not cleanly formed), so this remains a genuinely uncertain reading rather than a clear transcription. This ambiguity is appropriately disclosed rather than concealed.

- **Image**: The place name appears in two different spellings within the record itself — "Jarmi" (bride's birthplace) versus "Járme" (officiant's location) — for what is presumably the same village (Jármi). This inconsistency originates in the original document, not in the transcription; the text file preserves both spellings faithfully.

- **Image**: The abbreviation "N." preceding each mother's given name (Rebeka, Pepi) is not fully spelled out in the register. It has been read as "neje" (his wife) — a standard convention in these Hungarian Jewish marriage registers, and a reasonable interpretation — but since the record itself only abbreviates it, this remains an inference rather than an explicit statement in the source.

Overall, the transcription is accurate and faithful to the image; the discrepancies are limited to a few omitted archival reference numbers, one paragraph of added historical context, and pre-existing ambiguities in the handwritten source itself (honestly flagged rather than papered over).
