Dear JewishGen Volunteers, Colleagues, and Community Members,
Thanks in large part to the steadfast work of our dedicated and expert community, JewishGen.org has seen another year of remarkable growth, community development, and new resources.
As the year comes to a close, I am writing in the hope that you’ll join me in thanking Michael Tobias for his phenomenal service to our beloved organization. At the end of this month, Michael will leave JewishGen as a full-time staff member. However, as many of you know, his work will have a lasting impact.
For more than two decades, as a volunteer and then as a full-time staff member, Michael has made critical contributions to both JewishGen and the broader Jewish genealogical community. The historical databases that he innovated and developed have allowed JewishGen to take our place as the largest digital repository for Jewish family history information in the world.
Our databases, which currently contain more than 30 million Jewish records, have helped reconnect thousands of Jewish families and inspired them to consider what it means to be part of the Jewish people. Many meaningful family reunions — including those of Holocaust survivors and their families — have resulted from Michael’s passion and dedication.
Thank you, Michael, for supporting the mission that we all hold dear — preserving our Jewish family history and heritage for future generations.
Avraham Groll
