Dear JewishGen Family,
As part of our ongoing systems-wide modernization effort (first announced last summer), the imperative of adopting a modern cloud solution for our data has become clear. After significant research, we have selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) to provide our data infrastructure moving forward.
The migration of JewishGen servers “to the cloud” has already begun, and is taking place in coordination with Ancestry.com (as a continuation of our long-standing cooperative hardware support agreement with them). While we are making every effort to plan any necessary website disruptions to take place during low traffic times, it will be unpredictable, and advance notice to the broader JewishGen community might not always be practical.
As such, while I plan to keep you informed of our progress and plans, if there is ever a time that the JewishGen website is inaccessible, please be sure to check our facebook page, where we will be posting updates.
JewishGen’s transition to AWS, joins us with leading organizations throughout the world, and represents another important milestone in our ongoing efforts to secure the future of JewishGen’s important work, and its ability to “preserve our history and heritage for future generations”.
If you have questions about this change, please feel free to email support@JewishGen.org, where volunteers will be glad to answer any questions or comments you might have.
Wishing you all a Happy Purim.
