At Tredegar County Court. Isaac Amiel, a Jewish pedlar, claimed damages from a tradesman of the same persuasion, named Lewis Goldblatt, Ebbw Vale, and also by taking by force from him a pack of drapery goods on 6 August. Plaintiff left defendant’s employ about a month before, owing Goldblatt 20s and went into business on own account. The defendant knocked him down, took hold of the pack and held plaintiff by throat. The plaintiff said that he had purchased the goods from a tradesman in Cwm. The ownership of the goods was not in question. Judgement for assault £2 with costs.

Case at Tredegar. Charles Goldblatt (60), Louis Goldblatt (31) and William Goldblatt (19), father and sons, drapers, Ebbw Vale, were charged with conspiring with one named Glass to defraud Messrs S. C. Larkins and Sons, Birmingham, of a large quantity of goods between September and November last. Further, Charles Goldblatt and Louis Goldblatt at about the same time conspired with Glass to defraud Messrs Parry and Rocke, Swansea, of goods. In 1901 or the beginning of 1902 the Goldblatts introduced from Russia a man named Moses Glass who was a relative, a Polish Jew, who lived with Louis in Ebbw Vale. At the end of 1901 or beginning of 1902 a shop was taken in Tredegar in the name of Moses Glass and he and  William Goldblatt opened a business there for the retail of fancy goods. In April 1902 Louis Goldblatt took Glass to the London and Provincial Bank at Ebbw Vale and introduced him as a customer. The name of the firm was Glass & Co, drapers, clothiers, and boot dealers, 38 Church Street, Tredegar. William Goldblatt remained at the shop until November 1903 when the transactions took place which led to the present situation. Glass lived with Louis Goldblatt in Ebbw Vale and continued with the business in Tredegar. In October 1903 he disappeared and it appeared that he had gone back to Russia. Larkins said that Louis Goldblatt had traded with them for 6 years and Charles Goldblatt had traded for a short period  3 years ago. Straightforward in his transactions. Reference to Louis Goldblatt’s stall at Ebbw Vale market. Reference to Isaac Amiel, 1 William Street, Ebbw Vale, who came from Russia 12 months ago as assistant to Louis Goldblatt.

Case dismissed. Insufficient evidence.

A consignment of boots was wrongly delivered to defendant in mistake for his brother. Brother refused to pay but being sued by seller of the goods was compelled to do so. Then threatened action against the railway company who paid for the goods. Judgement for plaintiff with costs, to be paid at £2 per month.

Ref to appeal by Rev A.A. Green on behalf of Ebbw Vale Synagogue. Opened last December but the riots deprived it of some of the promised contributions. Now a few hundred pounds are needed to free it from debt. Green mentions that the trustees of the chapel (converted into synagogue) had refused a better offer because they preferred it should remain consecrated for religious worship. The Tredegar congregation had repaid this generosity by subscribing 5 guineas in aid of non-Jews suffering as a result of the coal strike.

Her shop is in a Lowry painting. This arose through her uncle, Monty Bloom, being a friend of Lowry and had take him on a tour of the Welsh valleys.
