Town of Haverfordwest Haverfordwest (in Welsh: Hwlffordd), a town on the Western Cleddau river in southwest Wales, has a population of about 12,000. It lies about 60 miles west of Swansea. Haverfordwest was a municipal borough in the county of Pembrokeshire, of which it was (and is) the county town. From 1974 until 1996, it was within the district of Preseli (which consisted of the northern part of Pembrokeshire) in the newly-formed county of Dyfed. In 1996, Preseli was merged with the South Pembrokeshire district to form the reconstituted county of Pembrokeshire, a unitary authority (within the ceremonial, or preserved, county of Dyfed). The Jewish Community There were a small number of Jewish residents of Haverfordwest in the mid-nineteenth century, although there was never an organised Jewish congregation or Jewish cemetery.
