Talmud Torah and Stratford Schools Synagogues

Bloomfield Avenue:

The Talmud Torah, founded in 1893,(ii) was originally at the Adelaide Road synagogue. It later moved to Stamer Street and then, from the 1920s until the 1930s, to 43 Bloomfield Avenue,(iii) where there was a small synagogue in an upstairs room. This continued in use as a synagogue and for meetings of the Board of Guardians into the 1940s.(iv)

Zion Schools and Stratford Schools:

From March 1934, Bloomfield Avenue was the home of the Zion Schools until 1980,(viii) when they merged with the preparatory section of Stratford College (opened September 1952(ix)), which was situated at Zion Road, Rathgar, Dublin 6. A small congregation had held services at Stratford College (which included the Talmud Torah) for several years, when in 1976 it incorporated the former members of the Lennox Street Synagogue on the closure of their synagogue. They continued to hold services until 1981.(x)

Ministers & Readers:

None, but these congregations would have relied upon the spiritual leadership of teaching staff as well as the various Chief Rabbis of Ireland and Dublin's communal rabbis.
