The Synagogue, c. 1881
[Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter] A painting of Exeter Synagogue by John White; part of an album presented to Sir Julian Goldsmid, Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, and at one time MP for Honiton. It dates from about 1900. The passerby is slightly out of scale for the building. The painting clearly shows the original facade of the synagogue, which appears to have been removed as a result of damage during the Second World war.
