In 1896, the
Cardiff New Hebrew Congregation,
Edward Place, founded a Talmud Torah school, which (amicably) established itself as the immigrant-inspired
Beth Hamedrash congregation.(vi)

In 1900, the congregation built a synagogue and
school on this site, which had been acquired from the Marquis of Bute the
previous year.(ix)

In June 1904, the Beth Hamedrash amalgamated with the
Cardiff Hebrew Congregation, Cathedral Road.(x)

Hamedrash, of Merches Place, Clare Road,
reappeared as a separate congregation, "dependent on the Cathedral
