Background

Rostov-on-Don had the third largest Jewish community in Russia, following Moscow and Saint Petersburg.  This is an index of the marriage records of the Rostov Synagogue [the Jewish Community] from 1852 until 1920.

This list includes 3923 entries dating from 1852 to 1920.  The fields of information include the number of the act of marriage—in this case the marriages were enumerated separately each year, the age of the bride (in whole years), the age of the groom in whole years, the surname of the groom, given name of the groom, patronymic of the groom, surname of the bride, given name of the bride, patronymic of the bride, the date of marriage, and comments.  Out of the 3923 marriage record entries, there are comments for only thirty of them.
