Synagogue/Society Description: |
Ohave Zedeck Congregation was founded in the Oakcliffe section of the South Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh in the late 1910s or early 1920s by Jewish families leaving the Hill District. The congregation occupied various rented quarters until 1921, when it purchased a house at 356 Craft Ave. The congregation greatly renovated the building in 1936-1937. With the consolidation of the local Jewish population to Squirrel Hill after World War II, membership decline. Ohave Zedeck continued to advertise religious services until 1975. The congregation later transferred its memorial boards and its cemetery to B'nai Emunoh Congregation, which is now B'nai Emunoh Chabad. Plaques photographed by Eric Lidji.
