Synagogue/Society Description: |
Jewish families began meeting for worship services in Punxsutawney as early as 1886 and founded Chevra Aguadas Achim Congregation in 1889. Chevra Aguadas Achim closed in the early 1980s and donated its plaques to Sons of Israel Congregation in DuBois. Temple Sons of Israel closed in early 2023. In mid-2023, the memorial boards from Chevra Agudas Achim in Punxsutawney were relocated to the Punxsutawney Area Historical and Genealogical Society Museum. Plaques photographed and transcribed by Richard Levine (2008) and Eric Lidji (2023). For more information, visit https://rauhjewisharchives.org/entry/punxsutawney/
