Jewish Survivors listed in a Hungarian Periodical

17,931 Records

Holocaust · Survivors · Hungary

Background

In 1945 a now defunct Hungarian periodical, Hirek az Elhurcoltakrol (News about the Deportees) published five issues listing Hungarian Jewish survivors located in various European Displaced Person camps. Most of these camps were in Germany and Austria, but there are also lists from Sweden, France, Czechoslovakia, Poland and the former Soviet Union. In the latter case, these were Hungarian Jewish prisoners of war (forced laborers) captured by the Russians.

The complete list of 17,931 names has now been computerized.

What is in the Database

The database consists of the following fields:

Camp
Family name
Given Name
Year of birth
Place of birth or origin

While researchers may request copies of individual pages of interest to them, the material does not provide any information in addition to that which has been computerized. Specifically, there is no information as to where these persons subsequently went -- e.g. back to Hungary, to Palestine or the United States.  Researchers seeking such information may want to consult microfilmed ITS material held in Yad Vashem or various survivor lists held at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

This the Hungarian Jewish Survivor file found in the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.
