"This beautiful cemetery was etablished in 1876 by early members of the Jewish community of Harrisonburg, who went on to form the Hebrew Friendship Congregation a year later. The Hebrew Friendship Congregation renamed to Beth El Congregation in 1963, and it continues to maintain the cemetery to this day. Photographs and GPS coordinates of grave markers were taken in October 2023 by Shawn and Susan Dilles. They update information provided by Dorothy and Sam Werth in 1990 available at the Virginia Historical Society (https://virginiahistory.org/research/collections) and the American Jewish Archives (https://www.americanjewisharchives.org/research/)."
