Cemetery Description: |
The B’nai Israel Cemetery is the Jewish cemetery established in the late 1870s when the Northern Pacific Railroad sold 10 acres off South Montana Street to the Hebrew Benevolent Society for $5.00. At one time, Butte hosted two synagogues: B’Nai Israel and Adath Israel. As the Jewish community of Butte declined, the two groups maintained one temple and one cemetery. For more information and selected headstone photos, see https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/20750/bnai-israel-cemetery
