Cemetery Description: |
Burial data dating from 1852 to 1938 was transcribed by Kaye Kole from "Laurel Grove Cemetery, Savannah, Georgia : General Index to Keepers' Record Books, 1852-1938" (Works Progress Administration, 1939). Data regarding burials from 1939-2001 was compiled by Laurel Grove Cemetery staff. The cemetery was developed in 1850 and is located on a portion of the former Springfield Plantation. It was developed as a segregated cemetery and today is managed as two cemeteries: Laurel Grove North (white section) and Laurel Grove South (black section). The Jewish Section is a part of Laurel Grove North, as well as separate Stranger and Infant burial grounds. The cemetery is open to the public daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and there is no admission fee. A satellite office of the Department of Cemeteries is located in the Laurel Grove Administrative Building at 802 West Anderson Street. |
