Knesseth Israel Cemetery, separate section located adjacent to the Ellington Cemetery on Maple Street (Route 140), Ellington, CT. Entrance is through the gates of the Ellington Cemetery. Cemetery grounds were purchased August 12th, 1909, by Samuel Rosenberg, Louis Franklin [grandfather of Rose Blum Singer], and Samuel Levine [grandfather of Audrey Dobkin Brett] -- representatives of the Connecticut Jewish Farmers Association. Land was purchased from Sarah and Sylenda B. Morris. The deed stated that "said conveyed premises shall be used for cemetery purposes only, and that all burials shall be in accordance with the Jewish laws, and the customs and traditions of the Jewish people in regard to the burial of the dead...." |
