Cemetery Description: |
Storozhynets Cemetery, Storozhynets, UKRAINE. 267 burials total.
The Storozhynets cemetery documentation project was originally created and funded by American genealogist Brooke Schreier Ganz in the fall of 2015. She managed the project with multiple people at the Jewish Museum of Chernivtsi, including Anna, Ines, Victoria, Paul, Paula, and Mykola. Photography was undertaken in the summer of 2016 by students from the Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University through their work with the Museum, including Hanna, Victoriia, Nadia, Vasya, Christian and volunteers from Germany Ines and Florian. The text transcription of the resulting photographs was created by American genealogist Michael Moritz in 2023. The data set that is currently online in JOWBR includes only the relatively newer half of the cemetery, sections A and C only. The older sections of the cemetery, B and D, were overgrown with weeds in 2016 and could not be photographed at that time. A return project is being organized, hopefully for spring 2024, to photograph sections B and D, which may contain as many as 1500 more tombstones in those sections, based on estimates from people who had visited the cemetery several years ago.
