City: Dunaszerdahely (Dunajska Streda)
This cemetery is one of the larger ones in the area, overing over 15 dunams (hectares) of land. Jewish settlement in this area is known from 1690. It is located in the north of the town, and is surrounded by a stone wall. At one time there was a purification room and a watchman's booth in the middle of a wall. There are approximately 2700 grave stones (not all identifiable today); the earliest ones dating from the 18th century. jf--email from Gilda 3/28/04 |
