Name: Cementerio Israelita de Lima, founded 1870. Location: District of Bellavista, in Lima, Peru. Quoted from an article written by Leon Trahtenberg (www.trahtenberg.com) "In 1868 10 Jews died of yellow fever, who were buried in the old British cemetery Callao (Protestant). However, the need for Jewish burial for their dead and care for widows and orphans of deceased Jews moved to join for charitable purposes, in April 1869 creating a temporary institution chaired by James Herzberg and Miguel Badt. This institution was officially founded in 1870 under the name ""Hebrew Benevolent Society, to be officially recognized on July 1, 1873, under the chairmanship of Natazzius Hurwitz, accompanied by Paul and James Ascher Brillman. In March of 1875 the foundation stone was laid at the Baquijano Jewish Cemetery, which at that time had the name ""Campo Santo Baquijano Israelita"", occupying a land acquired on the farm of Enrique Meiggs (which is the land occupied today by the Jewish Cemetery in Bellavista)." There are approximately 3,200 burials to date. The cemetery belongs to the "Jewish Association", an association which comprises all the Jewish Communities in Peru.
