Cemetery Description: |
Cimetiere des Bardines, Angoulême, FRANCE. 37 burials total.
Charente department, Poitou-Charentes region. The Jewish section of the Bardines cemetery has a small section of graves from the period of 1940-1944. Many Jews from the Moselle region of France fled the German occupation and settled in Angoulême. Some passed away (before the arrest and deportation of many other Jews) and were buried in the Bardines cemetery. At least 36 graves from the time period of the refugees have been discovered and recently restored. Some grave stones are still missing even though it is known where the people are buried. The names were donated by Gerard Benguigui from the complete burial list of the Jewish community. Those interested in more information should contact the Jewish community of Angouleme at http://www.consistoiredefrance.fr/synagogue/1541.cj-angouleme.
