Elswick - St John Cemetery, Elswick Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, ENGLAND. 743 burials total.
Enter off St John's Road, Drive up to Chapel, turn left & follow Road around, after sharp right turn up hill Jewish section is over the wall on left. In 1857 the Jewish community paid £500 for a section of the cemetery and this is now full with over 1000 graves.
The Burial Data is from the opening of the cemetery in the 1850s through to its closure in 1963 (with some later burial presumably in reserved spaces). The data was transcribed by Deborah Ross, based upon tombstone photographs provided by Peter Gatoff, burial certificates provided by JCR-UK and supplemented by additional research, including visits to the cemetery, the Tyne and Wear Archives and the Discovery Museum, Newcastle upon Tyne. Submission of material to JOWBR was coodinated by JCR-UK (David Shulman), and includes relevant links to the JCR-UK website.
