Rua Cap. Alfredo Antunes, 611, Paiol de Pólvora, Nilópolis - RJ, CEP 26545-440 Brasil
The Jewish community of Nilopolis began in 1920 with the arrival of the first European immigrants to that municipality, mainly Jewish Germans, and Poles of the regions of German speech. At its peak, this community had only 300 families and many were born, lived and died in this municipality neighboring Rio de Janeiro, now part of the Greater Rio de Janeiro.
The Cemitério Comunal Israelita de Nilópolis was created high on the hill on the indigents area of the municipal cemetery with which it shares its back wall. It was inaugurated in 1934 and the first burial took place the following year. |
