Skikda was called Philippeville until 1962. This information was donated by the organization Mémoire Active d'Algérie (Active Memory of Algeria,) the association to safeguard and preserve Jewish cemeteries in Algeria. It was founded in 2006 by President and Founder Bernard HADDAD. All the information for the burial registers for the years 1830-1904 were provided from the site of the archives of the office of French Foreign Affairs (http://anom.archivesnationales.culture.gouv.fr/caomec2/) which were based on microfilms of records left in Algeria. They are incomplete and have only been reconstituted through extensive research. The burial registers for the years 1905-1962 have been reconstituted by a team of volunteers as well as cemetery visits to Algerian and by family members of the deceased. Mémoire Active d'Algérie is actively seeking volunteers to assist with the reconstitution of Jewish cemetery registers throughout Algeria.
