BACKGROUND

This is a list of some of the Jewish soldiers and servicemen and women that served with the military forces of the British Empire during the First World War (1914-1918).� The source for the information came from the SA Rochlin Archives, of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies.

DATABASE

This database includes 777 Jews from South Africa that served the military and fought in the First World War.

The fields in the database are:

  • Surname
  • Given name
  • R.N.RM. (Military Serial Number)
  • Regiment
  • Location of Military Service
  • Rank
  • Address (in South Africa, either town or street address)
  • Comments (Such as military unit, POW status etc. with notes about some individuals)
