Jewish Casualties from the Russian Army in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905
By: Eric Feinstein

Background:

The source is the book:  M. L. Usov. Jews in the Army. Publishing House "Razum," St. Petersburg. 1911. Printing house of L. Ya. Ganzburg. St. Petersburg, 6th Rozhdestvenskaya, 22.

Starting on page 107 there is a 62-page list of all the soldiers. There are 2943 entries that include the military regiment served, surname, given name (no patronymics available), marital status, town of residence, fate in war

This list is titled: List of Jewish soldiers killed, wounded and missing in the war with Japan

Information about registration is not too clear, as there are 2 pieces of information related to that, while there are no headers to clearly understand specifics.  The governorate is listed in the beginning of the record, while in a different spot we have a uezd/town/village information, which doesn't necessarily correspond to the governorate.  So, it's possible that the governorate is the location from where the soldier was called up (or registered), while the 2nd piece of information is the place of birth, but again, this is just our guess.

This sample record shows the 2 pieces of information - ID, governorate, rank, Name, marital status, uezd/town/village, fate

The list was located by Eric Feinstein and transcribed from Russian by Mike Vayser.
