The Theresienstadt Ghetto ProjectBackgroundThe Theresienstadt Project on Geni.com seeks to collect profiles for all of the people imprisoned by the Nazis in the Ghetto Theresienstadt in Terezin, Czech Republic. To date, more than 53,570 profiles have been added to the project. Results on JewishGen include links to the profiles and their family trees on Geni.com. Out of approximately 144,000 prisoners in Theresienstadt, almost 34,000 died there between 1941 and 1945 due to starvation, poor hygiene conditions, overcrowding and disease. Most of these people were elderly. Another 90 000 were deported to the ghettos and extermination camps in the East, and only roughly four thousands of them returned.
