Jews Deported from Spisska Nova Ves, Slovakia - May 28, 1942

INTRODUCTION

This material is from the collection in Yad Vashem received from "The Documentation Centre of the Central Union of Jewish Communities in Bratislava". This organization was founded after the Second World War by the initiative of the Jewish Agency, the Zionist Federation and the Association of Jewish Communities in Slovakia.

The center acquired and processed material about the Holocaust in Slovakia, and assisted in producing documents for the trials of the fascist Slovakian leaders and Nazi criminals. In 1949 the center published a book in Hebrew, Slovak and English entitled The Destruction of Slovak Jewry - Pictures and Documents, edited by Dr. B. Steiner. That year the center also ceased its activity. Most of the material collected by the center was brought to Israel and given to Yad Vashem in 1954.

The list contains 1,054 entries. The fields included are as follows:
Household Number - All household members did not necessarily have the same Surname.
Person Number
Surname
Given Name
Year of Birth
Place of Residence - On the original list, this was associated only with the head of family. An assumption was made that it was the same for other household members with the same Surname, and the data reflects that assumption.
