Austrian Jews in Concentration Campsby Peter LandeThis database contains information about 802 Austrian Jews in Concentration Camps. IntroductionDuring the course of collecting information on Jews of other nationalities in concentration camps, I came across the names of large numbers of Austrian Jews. Since no Gedenkbuch (memorial book) for Austrian victims of the Holocaust has as yet been published, I decided to collect some of these names. The resulting short list is far from complete, even for the camps which are cited, but is intended to help researchers interested in the fate of Austrian Jews determine some of the sources which might be consulted. The names were taken from concentration camp records, including Stutthof, Gross Rosen and Sachsenhausen, French deportation lists, and Liliana Fargion's book, Il Libro dalli' Italia della Memorial Gli Ebrei deportati, which lists persons deported from Italy. All of these sources are available at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) in Washington, DC. The fields included in this list are as follows:
Note: A further site to check out is http://www.doew.at, which lists about 60,000 Austrian Jews deported to various camps. AcknowledgementsWe owe our most sincere gratitude to Peter Lande, without whose effort this information would not be available to you today.
