Frankel Mohel Book from Prague

Background

Mohel book of Israel ben Simon Frankel-Spira (1711-1791), communal leader in Prague. The mohel book was sold at auction in 2004 by Baronovich (Auction 10, Item 253) and its present whereabouts are unknown. Fortunately, a transcript was found and the data was entered by Yehuda Rubin for JewishGen. Israel Frankel-Spira was the head of the community and performed circumcisions for the elite in Prague, including many members of his own family.

The Mohel book records 456 circumcisions between 1730 and 1771.
